　 日本各地の潮間帯にきわめて普通，船底の汚損種（岡田ら 1965, 2004，内田 1979，西村 1992）， 日本各地，磯の潮間帯に普通（内海 1983; 1990）， 日本全域，岩礁上，汚損種（奥谷 1994a, b）， 北海道以南，潮間帯下部から潮下帯，岩盤下面，転石下，貝殻上，岸壁・ブイ・ 船体など人工構造物上（今原 2011）．
　 Namhae Sangju（Lee et al. 2011）．

　 紅海，イタリア，オーストラリアから採集された W. subovoidea のネオタイプは W. subtorquata (d’Orbigny 1852) に改められた（Vieira et al. 2014）．
　 チゴケムシ属に日本産5種 W. aterrima (Ortmann 1890)，W. bidentata (Ortmann 1890)， W. mawatarii Vieira, Spencer Jones & Taylor 2014， W. subatra (Ortmann 1890)，W. typica (Okada & Mawatari 1937)， 韓国に3種 W. platypora Seo 1999，W. subtorquata (d'Orbigny 1852)，W. subatra （Vieira et al. 2014）．和名チゴケムシがどの種に該当するか不明．
　 写真の群体から一部を採集したやまだの personal collection による同定結果は上記のとおり．
